Snow day

Good thing it snowed two feet (and counting) this morning, resulting in my staying home today, as I was present to receive my very first package from Hungary. I managed to finally get a couple pieces from kOs favorite Dori Tomcsanyi, including the above jacket and bamboo knit dress. Well, I'm not certain it's the exact jacket pictured above (though it is from the same collection), and the dress I got is the Winter 11/12 version, but the shoot of the S/S 10 collection is one of my favorites that I've ever posted and deserves being posted again. Well, Dori's S/S 10 collection is actually one of my favorite collections ever. Do yourself a favor and head over to Dori's webshop, as she knows how to put on a sale!

In related news, given that both of my items from Dori are in the light tan family, I think I'm moving over to the light side (though it might just be that my eyes are blinded by the snow and are only registering shapes). I am thoroughly intrigued by the S/S 12 collection by Italian-born and London-based designer Claudia Ligari (found via NJAL). Particularly that perfect scuba-inspired dress, and those 3D panels that create super sneaky curvature in otherwise minimalistic shape-free pieces. That's what you call ninja tailoring. Or at least I do, in my snow-crazed state. Have I mentioned I'm sick again?

Edit: All of the pieces available in Claudia's e-shop are also available in black! Eek!

Dori(to)

I've had Dori Tomcsanyni's NJAL page on my bookmark bar for so long that I succumbed to a bag of Doritos before getting around to posting about her new collection. Bad idea on both accounts. The chips and the waiting. After spilling coffee on my vintage McQueen/Kat Stratford pants and somehow having them magically not stain, I'm feeling a bit more open to light coloured things. Particularly this dress (minus the visor). Would look excellent on a Classics grad student (especially a newly accepted one), don't you think? I'm also wanting to wear pants less and less (except for the aforementioned McQueen/Stratford pair). Just doesn't seem natural, especially if I have to pull them up every time I move. Here's hoping there's a new mydearthing skirt on the horizon...

Update: The dress is available as a custom order in The Shop, for less than $350!

Update to update: The dress (and the rest of Dori's new collection) is also available from Dori's webshop, for much much less (roughly half of the above mentioned price). She ships to every country too. Go...now!

Dori Tomcsanyi, Winter 11/12

And speaking of Dori Tomcsanyi, Dori has just posted her Winter 11/12 collection AND has put it up in her webshop to order. Rather thoughtful of her, especially as she seems to price her pieces fairly low and in sizes other than 'S'. However, seeing as I just booked another trip to you-know-where, I think I'll have to wait for the next collection to be posted so that this one goes on sale (as the S/S 11 is now, and at quite a discount too). Sigh. Anyway, I'll be checking back on all of the above pieces. The new blazer, for instance, doesn't catch my eye like her other one, but I can't help but think that waterproofing the bottom of a jacket is never a bad thing. Her one piece 'trouser dungerees' make me think I should be looking in the automotive section of the job ads. My still unrequited resolve to get some silk pajamas, now strengthened after seeing Sofia Coppola pose in some in Vogue, makes me consider that robe-inspired piece, which somehow is actually a lined winter jacket. And that full-length hand-knit bamboo/cotton dress! I am still waiting for Dori to go back to the neutrals of that brilliant S/S 10 collection, but even someone as colour-challenged as I am can find something to like in Dori's bright palette. And with the time change meaning less sunlight while I'm awake, a little colour doesn't hurt (you'll have to go see the whole collection on her site to get the extent of the colour I've still managed to largely leave out, as my picks are the neutral ones of the bunch).

Hearts Frozen Solid Thawed Once More by the Spring of Rage, Despair, and Hopelessness

That was a week, to say the least. If I didn't have a boarding pass to NY with my name on it for tomorrow morning, I can't be certain just how long I would be able to form full sentences any more. Whatever the case may be, I'm sure I'd still be able to appreciate these new looks by kOs favorite Dori Tomcsanyi (photos via NJAL). Gorgeous.

Take care of yourselves this week. I'll get back to more regular posting upon my return next weekend.

Sharp Shoulders

With my new found love of clean lines and classic looks (have I mentioned that?), the basic piece I've been looking for lately is a fitted jacket. This search may all be for naught, as I've never actually put one on before, and might actually hate it when I do get one on. But before that day arrives, here are the top four jackets on my want-to-try-on list:

1) The asymmetrical unisex Fletwood jacket from Dori Tomcsanyi's perfect S/S 10 collection. Though I of course gravitate towards darker colours, I would make an exception for this piece. I'm also dying to get something from Dori.

2) This Comme des Garçons tailcoat blazer that is up for auction on eBay for approximately 9 more hours. It could possibly be too classy for everyday wear, but for the relatively low price it's going for right now, I'm sure some use could be found for it in my wardrobe.

4) This is from Turkish designer Burce Bekrek, as posted by Queen Michelle this morning. Isn't it lovely?

Oh how I'm dreading working evenings this week, now that it's actually normal winter weather again. Sigh.

Dori Tomcsanyi, S/S 10

Dearest Dori,

Thank you so much for making blogging easy. Even after that lovely video, I was not prepared for these exceptional campaign and lookbook photos by Mark Viszlay. They have truly put a wide smile on my face, in part because they have transported me back to one of my most favorite places on earth. They have also confirmed your newest collection as my favorite of the season. I will do my best to fly out to Budapest as early as possible in order to see such beauty in person.

Cheers,
Me

Illusion Project 2010

While I was away, the delightful Dori Tomcsanyi sent me this video which features her S/S 10 collection, along with some looks from Agi Szabo. I quite love this wee film, as I love to see how pieces from one collection can work together, and how they can be styled on both sexes. Also, I aspire to dress this quickly every day. For this collection, Dori was inspired by optical illusions and used solely organic materials. My particular favorites are all the unisex high-waisted/paper-bag pants, and the jackets with the removable wooden collar (charmingly called the Woodini, at 0:23, or an asymmetrical version called the Fletwood at 0:38). Though I've been biased by my new heroes/favorite people towards moving to Switzerland, Hungary is definitely in the running for Where I Need to Live, as that is where I can get my hands on Dori's designs (at the k e p p showroom). Hmm...

...make sure to wear some tulips in your shoes...

To my delight, the newest 'issue' of NJAL features some of my absolute favorite designers who have been featured here on kOs: Alexandra Groover, Dori TomcsanyibARBARA Í gONGINI, Awareness & Consciousness, and Anneloes Van Osselaer. I can only conclude that I have excellent taste. Anyway, mark your calendars for May 5th, as Dori's full S/S 10 collection will be posted on that date. Until then, here are some wonderfully springy photos to tide you over. I wish I had some tulips to stick in my shoes for my walk to get a quad-shot iced venti soy caramel macchiato.

Dori Tomcsanyi, A/W 10

Remember that gorgeous choose-your-own-sleeve-opening top, and the comfiest grey outfit ever created? Well, Dori Tomcsanyi does it again with her A/W 10 collection. I simply love the shoulder pad/cap sleeve/structured shoulder hybrid on the sheath dresses, and the wet-look detailing that breaks up the black a bit (also on the tank below). And I rather like that Björk-ish necklace (below). Sigh. Please check out Dori's NJAL page to see a glorious jacket with an immensely oversized collar scattered with the perfect number of oversized snaps (I would post it here, but I'm not sure a PG-13 rated photo is okay for Blogger).

Phewf! Writing even a short post while a new stove is being installed is quite challenging! Hurray for new appliances! Now let's hope that doesn't mean they're getting ready to kick us out and convert the place into condos...

Convertible armholes

I love this open weave top by Dori Tomcsanyi (1st photo). Reminds me of the highly convertible open weave dress by Kelgwo that I've been oogling for ages (2nd photo). Why shouldn't I be able to choose where my arms go in my clothing?!! And both of these in turn make me drool some more over Alexandra Groover's rightly titled Polyorchis Self-Styling Dress (below). Sigh. Note to self: I need to figure out how to get my skirt to loop up onto my arms for my current project on my dress form.

And while I'm on Dori's NJAL page, isn't this outfit (below) just about the comfiest looking thing ever? I sure wish I had this to snuggle up with my ice pack all weekend.
