Social Services

While it felt like I downloaded a good chunk of the 52 photos from the Gareth Pugh A/W 13 show in Paris today, I actually only downloaded six. Furthermore, these six fall into two distinct categories: those that remind me of Tilda Swinton's genius outfit in Moonrise Kingdom (in colour and/or style), and those that resemble the chalkboard wall I want in our new place. My mind wanders.

Gareth Pugh, S/S 12

I'm supposed to be preparing for my meeting with my future MA advisor tomorrow morning, but I had to post these distracting photos now so that they're off my desktop. I have to say, I just love Gareth Pugh's S/S 12 collection. The 3D detailing of the necklines and shoulders is fantastic. Though the vertical slat pieces look completely unwearable, they do answer the question of what you could possibly do with those air vent covers if you just couldn't afford a new dress, à la Miss O'Hara. And I love the lining of my new favorite piece (below). Looks like the painting I did on the wall in my old bedroom.

Gareth Pugh, S/S 11

Apparently I slept the whole afternoon and evening away, leaving me little time before I turn in for my proper bed time. Many thanks to Konrad then for instantly providing me with excellent material to post. This is Gareth Pugh's S/S 11 presentation, being a film by Ruth Hogben in place of a standard runway show. This is the most highly produced fashion film I've yet seen, and I think only Mr. Pugh could've created such a masterpiece. By the end of the 11+ minutes, you truly feel like you've not only had a front row seat to Gareth Pugh's imagination, but were actually inside his head for a brief moment. At least that's how I felt. And I suddenly want a giant puffer-coat.

5

Oh Mr. Pugh, I nearly forgot about you.

Yes, that's Gareth Pugh A/W 10. And I'm pretending/hoping that that isn't leather.

Edit: This is my favorite piece, photo via SHOWstudio. Draped, asymmetrical, and deconstructed? Yes please!

In This Corner...Gareth Pugh

And, speaking of Gareth Pugh's LiveStudio session, Gareth was also answering questions via the Internet during the dress-making process, and he answered one of mine. And so, he has unwittingly become today's Corner designer...

In noticing not one but two Alanis Morissette songs playing in the background during his second LiveStudio day, I said: Glad to hear you love Alanis, Gareth! Have you ever been to Canada? And Mr. Pugh said: No, ive never been up there before.

This is exciting top-notch stuff folks. Stay tuned for more stellar questions from myself the next time I get such an opportunity (I swear I asked a couple of better questions, he just never answered them. Really!).

(P.S. In case you missed the memo, "In This Corner..." is a new segment on my blog, where a guest designer will write the post and let us all know a little bit about what goes on upstairs. Much more coming up!)

At last...

So, you say you have an extra £ 7,500 laying around? Well, that one-off dress that Gareth Pugh was creating inside the Internets is now up for sale in the SHOWstudio SHOP. I would recommend making sure you can afford to buy a slip or something to wear underneath it though...Oh, and that last pose - one of my favorite stretches.

Rad Rad

Thanks to Gareth and Sumie, and my reacquaintance with the wonder that is Alexandra Groover, my quest for the perfect jacket has now re-surfaced. And so this Rad Hourani jacket is looking pretty good to me right now...Do any of the above mentioned designers want my mailing address? Anyone?

Gareth Pugh's Sliced Wonder

If you're online right now, the last day of Gareth Pugh's LiveStudio session is running into overtime, but it looks like they're just finishing up. Here's a couple of screen shots of Gareth laying the finished dress flat out on the ground, and then just the dress itself. Every piece of the dress has been meticulously hand slashed by Gareth, so this dress is mega stretchy and drapey. I'm pretty sure it'll be way to much for my budget once it goes on sale in the SHOWstudio SHOP though. Sigh.

Edit: The session just ended. Here's one last screenshot with Gareth's hand showing where the front hem ends - the back is longer, like a train. Just lovely!

Top somethings

Top favorite clothing-related thing of the day: Discovering the perfect match of a summer dress (my Attila Design Sybil Dress) and a winter accessory (my mydearthing Fingerful Warmers).

Top odd video to start the day with: Watching Gareth Pugh place piece after piece after piece of tape onto a square of plastic and fabric, which eventually became an amazing spliced square of fabric to be used in his LiveStudio created dress.

Top non-favorite sound of the day: Scraping ice from the sidewalk and car windows. It's that time of year again...

Top album of the day that got me to work on my MacBook Pro's very first outing to Starbucks: Salt & Samovar's Old Joy New Joy, courtesy of the lovely Lauren Jones. It helped me get three whole interviews written up in the time it took me to drink a Triple Venti Non-Fat Extra Hot Caramel Brulée Latte!

Top exciting library book for the next two weeks: Skin+Bones: Parellel Practices in Fashion and Architecture, recommended by Emily Howse, and courtesy of my man's hard work and library card.

Top new Vivienne Westwood piece: This dress, available here.

Top new blog project: Starting tomorrow, I will be featuring a new segment on my blog, entitled "In This Corner...". For each Corner, a guest designer will be writing the post and giving us a little inkling of what really goes on in their heads. Stay tuned!

Top interview of the day: My interview with Alexandra Groover, posted below. Read it!

Coated coat

I'm afraid I'm becoming obsessed with Mr. Pugh. Very afraid. Just in time for tomorrow's LiveStudio session though!

And I do know I'm in love with coated/glazed fabrics lately, as featured in my ArtLab Space Odyssey dress and Babooshka Paneled Leggings. These fabrics are the perfect alternates to leather and vinyl, as they're vegan and quite pliable/comfortable to wear. This immaculate Gareth Pugh jacket is made of glazed cotton. And I can't believe those zippered hip panels/attachments. Reminds me of that gorgeous Dusturbance dress that was designed for the Queen herself.

Gareth Pugh, Live in a Box

I feel like I suddenly have a lot of work to do for my blog, and no time to do it. I have a proposal to write up and send to my favorite designers, two interviews to write up questions for, and an article to write to possibly contribute to another blog/online magazine. Eek! But I have found some lovely things that I must share with you, so here I am, revisiting my old friend, Procrastination. He's always been good to me, so why not.

First up is what I think is an amazing project/idea, involving the likes of Gareth Pugh (did you lose sleep over that jacket like I did?). Informed by Fashion156, I discovered a site I shall be perusing quite regularly called SHOWstudio. For those of you out of the loop like myself, according to their About page, "SHOWstudio’s innovative and ground-breaking projects have defined the manner in which fashion is presented via the Internet. SHOWstudio.com has pioneered fashion film and is now recognised as a leading force behind this new medium." I never knew! Their current LiveStudio project involves the Gareth Pugh creating a unique dress in a studio over 3 days while being broadcast live over the Internet. Mr. Pugh will also answer your questions submitted online while he's trapped within this scarily creative box. AND, the garment will be available for sale in the SHOWstudio SHOP once the event/dress is finished.

I've missed the first day of this, but I'm going to try to catch it on Monday, since I have the day off. I'm quite intrigued by this whole idea. It just seems like the most delicious rat-in-a-maze experiment, except you have a brilliant designer instead of a rat, and a one-of-a-kind garment at the end instead of a piece of cheese. Although I do hope Mr. Pugh receives some kind of sustenance whilst being trapped on all our voyeuristic computer screens. Oh, there are quite a few designers I'd love to see do something like this so I can see their brilliance in action. Is that so wrong?

Scare-worthy coat

Gareth Pugh's runway photos tend to frighten me just a little. But I'd be fine having nightmares for a week or so if I could get this coat. This really may be the most perfect coat ever. Ever. Sigh.
