yohj (JUN VIV) et al.: A/W 13

Well, good thing I had already called it, because both Junya Watanabe's and Vivienne Westwood's shows left something to be desired. Mr. Watanabe went with leather biker jackets in various shapes, and Dame Westwood went with extreme shoulder pads and zombie-ish makeup, leaving me with only a more detailed desire for a trench coat (to go with the boyfriend jeans I already wear every day), i.e. one with zippers (both photos from the Watanabe collection).

So, instead of wasting this post (sorry, Jun and Viv), let's look at the Comme des Garçons collection. Because, I have to say, I'm a fan. I would've liked a less-crowded runway though. It makes the already busy suits look a lot busier.

Sharp Shoulders

With my new found love of clean lines and classic looks (have I mentioned that?), the basic piece I've been looking for lately is a fitted jacket. This search may all be for naught, as I've never actually put one on before, and might actually hate it when I do get one on. But before that day arrives, here are the top four jackets on my want-to-try-on list:

1) The asymmetrical unisex Fletwood jacket from Dori Tomcsanyi's perfect S/S 10 collection. Though I of course gravitate towards darker colours, I would make an exception for this piece. I'm also dying to get something from Dori.

2) This Comme des Garçons tailcoat blazer that is up for auction on eBay for approximately 9 more hours. It could possibly be too classy for everyday wear, but for the relatively low price it's going for right now, I'm sure some use could be found for it in my wardrobe.

4) This is from Turkish designer Burce Bekrek, as posted by Queen Michelle this morning. Isn't it lovely?

Oh how I'm dreading working evenings this week, now that it's actually normal winter weather again. Sigh.

Stuck on you

Yes, I know that everyone is probably long done with this collection, but I can't seem to get away from those perfect Comme des Garçons' Fall 2009 pieces. The fact that Rei Kawakubo is simply a genius, paired with my new favorite wardrobe staple (my ArtLab coat) AND my reacquaintance with Kat Stratford, has resulted in my obsession with all things military inspired. So much so that I'm thinking of taking my lab coat home one day to sew on military buttons. Now, while I've gotten over my original CdG envy, I would gladly welcome these two coats into the fold. I even like the trompe l'oeil detailing of the first coat, which surprises me a little. I don't think I'll ever get away from my love of asymmetrical details, layers, and voluminous shapes. And the iconic twisted coat detailing is just too darling. No matter who I see wearing them.

Oh, and this is what I'd like to be wearing today. Nothing makes army pretty like a layer of tulle. I could conquer the world in this outfit.

Oh, bother

Here's that Comme des Garçons coat again (sans plaid), now available on eBay! Does it truly cost $1295 retail? I think I can replicate this look quite well for free by pairing my ArtLab Oversized Revolutionary coat with my Maria Severyna wrap underneath. Sure I won't get those lovely shoulder vents, but it's too cold for that anyway. And it seems I've already promised the year's spending budget to my two favorite designers...

Edit: I tried out the ArtLab jacket over top of the Maria Severyna wrap, and I actually think it looks better (eek!) than the CdG jacket! Ooo, and the January issue of Vogue touts the utility jacket as this season's must have item. Aren't I trendy? Remind me to take a picture of me wearing this at some point if I don't do it during my next photo shoot.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Wishing you the Merriest of Christmases, the Happiest of Holidays, and the Coziest of Winters. And Santa, if you're still stuck on a present for me, please buy me this perfect Comme des Garçons coat. I love it to pieces, and I've been a good girl this year.

See you all back on the 26th-ish.

Oh, eBay...

This crumpled beauty kept me up last night. I bid when it was semi-within my budget, but now it's skyrocketed beyond that imaginary line of justification. Sigh. Why are all the Comme des Garçons pieces I want on eBay, and why do all the other eBayers have money when I don't? Bidding ends in less than 10 minutes...

Sigh.

Comme des Garçons? Yes, please!

I'm afraid my previous post could end up getting me in a heap of trouble. After fulfilling my duties as Christmas present purchaser and editor this afternoon, I've been browsing the likes of Yoox and eBay to see what's around from my newest favorite designers. And it didn't take long for me to find the most perfect cardigan ever: a Comme des Garçons heavy knit, double breasted, twisted to perfection sweater. Sigh indeed. This would look right at home with just about everything in my ever expanding wardrobe.

In need of an army blacket

I'm rather hesitant to make a new post today because I'd like that gorgeous ArtLab photo to always be at the top of my blog. Sigh. Perhaps I can justify bumping it down by working ArtLab into this post too (surprise!).

I'm also rather hesitant to blog about a huge label here. I know I've mentioned Vivienne Westwood a few times, but that's simply because she's a genius. And now, after being tipped off yet again by Queen Michelle, I really feel that I must post here about another big label which I've of course heard about, but never paid attention to because of my indie/handmade sensibilities. The label in question in Comme des Garçons. More importantly, the piece in question is a hybrid between an army jacket and a blanket. Yes, a blanket. I for one always have a blanket on me if I'm in any type of reclining position at home. And I've always loved the look of an army jacket. Indeed, Linda Cardellini's character in Freak and Geeks would be my fashion icon if I was transported in time back to high school.

Therefore, I believe this Comme des Garçons piece to be made just for me. However, I would never buy such a high end piece (unless, perhaps, it was actually a Vivienne Westwood piece). And so, I think I need to get both the ArtLab Revolutionary Jacket Oversized and a big ol' tartan blanket statim.

I spose another option if I want to tone down the army look would be to get Peeko Apparel's Kayo Wrap-Vest, and sneak a blanket in under those pants too (the wrap is made from men's dress pants). I might need a bigger belt though.
