Cosmetic beauty

I'm always pleasantly surprised when I stop in at the old rundown Shoppers Drug Mart on the way home from work, rather than the new fancy big box store one further down the road. I simply forget about the absolutely wonderful cosmetician that works there, who always recommends great products to me (whether I ask her to or not) and loads me up with free samples based on my skin type and what not. She's the perfect person for the job, as she's gorgeous and could sell me a water-damaged shoe box if she tried. And today, I noticed that she has the most beautiful black hair, similar to the newest Black-eyed Suzie doll, The Unhappy Bride (one of my favorite dolls of Sarah's!). When I dyed my hair black some five or six years ago, her hair is the noir mane I had in mind. Too bad I'm boringly Caucasian with a slightly high forehead.

In My Pocket

I was recently (kind of) extended an invitation to live in a wonderful somebody's pocket. Although this unfortunately can not be, it made me ponder what I would like to live in my pocket, besides Germs, my invisible dog (anyone besides my sister know that reference?). First of all, I would fancy having black-eyed suzie's darling Tita in my pocket, as she reminds me of myself, and I would then have an ornament to hang on any Charlie Brown Christmas tree I might come upon in my daily wanderings.

Second, I'd stuff in a pair of Hydra Heart vegan shoes for wherever my feet take me, indoors or outdoors.

Third, I'd ball up a Black Market Baby Spider Mesh Tank Top, as you never know when you might need another layer.

And last, I'd carry a Pocket Art Mirror from Lisa Falzon, for a bit of inspiration, and a chance to see what dreams are creeping up behind me.

Oh, and I'd quite like it if mydearthing's One Pocket Dress were my pocket.

Me as a doll

In case you've ever wondered about my natural hair colour, or what it looks like now (as my profile picture is now 4 years old), I thought I'd use black-eyed suzie's new shop update to illustrate.

This is what my hair used to look like, pre-2001.

This is what it looks like now (except black). I like messy pigtails and updos.

This is what I'm growing it out to look like. My hair stylist says this will take 2 years. Sigh.

I've never loved dolls so much as these sweater-ed, scarf-ed, and legwarmer-ed ones.

High speed misses

I'm really feeling the effects of my super slowed down 'high speed' internet lately. Two updates by two of my favorite Etsyians have proven too fast for me to even think of pulling out that dangerous piece of plastic. Saturday's loss was black-eyed suzie's long awaited shop update, complete with all things witchy. I am still debating getting a pendant since I missed that Lady MacBeth one from the last update, but my favorites (above) have long been relegated to the sold list.

And today's loss is an unexpected shop update from the ever so lovely and talented Kate Towers. Kate has been on a bit of a hiatus lately, but it seems that Etsy stole away some of her time to interview her as the current Featured Seller. Kate also restocked the shop to prepare for the feature with some very lovely one of a kind pieces. However, yet again, my favorites (below) were gone before I got there. Sigh. Kate does say that she's hoping to be a bit more consistent in making/listing things in the future, so I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed on owning one of her pieces one day.

An important lesson on keeping up your blog reading

Tis another sad day. I've felt bereft of inspiration for blogging today. Perhaps because many of my favorite designers are on holidays and/or gearing up for their autumn/winter collections. Perhaps because my favorite summer pieces are awaiting laundering, lest I offend more olfactory systems. Perhaps because I've been imagining my no-longer-mine skirt traveling far far away from me. Perhaps because I'll be seeing the littered skeletons of the numerous dead trees for weeks, as a result of the city's limited budget and manpower. Perhaps because an entire house from my daily walk disappeared while I was at work.

And perhaps it is a sad day mainly because I missed black-eyed suzie's shop update, meaning my favorite dolls and pendants have been sold without even giving me a chance. I know I couldn't have afforded the actual Hamlet or Lady MacBeth Art Dolls (below). But I would have snatched up the Lady MacBeth Doll Pendant for sure (above). I can't remember liking a doll since my Cabbage Patch or My Kid's Sister. But Sarah's work is beyond incredible. The eyes on her dolls are so striking. And I love the doll couture clothing. Sigh. The gorgeous Titania Art Doll Bust is still available, but I fear I would be overwhelmingly reminded of being forced into our horrible Grade 9 rendition of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Curses. Time to go to bed; perhaps tomorrow shall be better.

If only I were made of foam and paper...

Yes, I know this is a doll, thus rendering the dress quite too small. But this is my desired look for the day. It somehow just represents how I'm feeling this sluggish afternoon. And of course I was reeled in by the doll's title ('Persephone Ascending', for the Classics geek in me). And also by the location of the artist, Black-eyed Suzie (Montreal, where I would love to live). I do think I could find a similar look in my new haunt (ArtLab's shop, of course!). Hmm...

Actually, in the 5 minutes it took me to write this, and whilst perusing the lovely listings of ArtLab (I somehow always find something I didn't notice before!), I found another look I wouldn't mind for my mood right now. I'm quite positive that this is the only way to get me into a jumper/romper/harem pant that seems to be the craze (at least in the blogosphere). Yes, I balk against that fad, although I can't say I've actually tried it. But if it's an ArtLab creation, I am more than willing to try my hand at being 'the girl who leapt through time...'. Especially with that sculptural shoulder detailing! Somehow it looks so comforting to me, like the sumptuous quality of the piece is embracing its wearer.
