The Lady of Shalott

The last two (gorgeous!) afternoons, I've spent my post-class time translating Latin beside a babbling brook (i.e. a man-made pond with tiny waterfall), which I stumbled upon behind the building I now spend a third of my time in. If I wasn't already sold on being a grad student (which I was), I definitely am now. Can you believe I'm basically getting paid (by the government, no less) to have the kind of romantic afternoons before only read about in Anne of Green Gables (and/or Tennyson)? I've even been assigned an office and given a key, but, as long as it's nice enough to study outside, that office is going to be used as much as Roslyn's Cafe.

Anyway, Gary Graham's S/S 13 collection perfectly complements my secret little translating spot (and has finally returned to the aesthetic I first loved him for). Prints and all, it also reminds me of some of my favorite layered outfits (and favorite wallpapers...). Thanks, Mr. Graham!

Dog's Got a Bone

This table (by Hannes Grebin, via ARCADEMI)...

...reminds me of this F/W 12/13 dress by Gary Graham (via Style.com). Or, is it the other way around? Hmm...And yes, Gary Graham's collection is already up. Seems he's going the route of other designers not doing a proper presentation this season. Which is just as well. Getting invites to shows I am in the wrong country for does not a happy me make. Sigh. Just a warning to all of you out there: if you ever go to New York in February, chances are a February at home will never be the same. Or any other month, for that matter...

Gary Graham, F/W 11

I'm not sure how Gary Graham has gone from the utterly romantic upholstered look that I first came to know him by to this F/W 11 collection full of looks that would very likely get heaps of praise from a certain 14-year-old blogger. Ah well, at least the colours are still fairly muted. Anyway, I do know that I don't feel so bad now about my no-hot-water-hence-no-shower hair that looks pretty much like these wigs. And there's a few pieces that make me feel a tad warmer just by looking at them from my no-hot-water-hence-no-heat apartment. The Chucks (prevalent in the looks I don't like) are a nice touch too.

Dude.

This still means that the pieces I want the most (see below) are too expensive for me, but I've definitely been distracted from my daily bike workout/The Wire fest by such an offer. Sigh. (P.S. The 'Limited Edition' items are the cheapest...)

Nice to meet you (again), Gary Graham

So, the other day, in order to get my mind off of my favorite ex-neighbourhood (and very confused) kitty (who might actually now live just two doors down from me!), I went on a short shopping trip for a zippered bag to accompany me on my day trips in New York. For some reason I decided to venture into Gravity Pope's clothing store, just for fun. Though I knew I wouldn't be able to find a bag there for under $300, I thought I'd amuse myself with looking through some high end clothing, since I know they carry some MM6, Christopher Kane, fifth avenue shoe repair, and so on. It seemed though that every piece I pulled out that immediately interested me from the side view was from the same label, being a guy's name that I didn't recognize and couldn't remember after leaving the store. So today I thought I'd glance through the list of brands on their website and recalled that that label was Gary Graham. It seems like my eyes and hands have better memory than my actual brain, as I've already blogged about Gary's Fall 2010 collection before. So really, that pointless visit to Gravity Pope was a good idea, as I've now been re-acquainted with this collection which I'd wear constantly if given the chance. I just can't get enough of these colours and textures all jumbled together. And, now I have a new shop on my must-visit list for my trip. Here's hoping at least one piece will be slightly affordable at Gary's boutique as it won't have that customs and shipping fee added to the price tag... Sigh.

Jeff, Isabella, and Gary

1) I just came home from watching Jeff Bridges in a role almost as good as The Dude. Crazy Heart has great music, and was just the sort of slow, pretty, rambling movie I needed.

2) The fashion newbie that I am, I just realized who Isabella Blow is. I will never again see that scene in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou the same as the previous fifteen times.

3) Lauren just clued me into the existence of a NY-based designer Gary Graham. I don't find anything particularly mind-blowing in his Fall 2010 collection (although there are a few such pieces from his Fall 2002 collection). However, I would constantly wear these seven outfits (the 7th and my favorite is below) exactly as they are if given the chance, week in and week out (yes, even with all that colour). Well, I wouldn't wear the cloven-heeled shoes.
