mydearthing, S/S 11

"The name of the ship was Dawn Treader. She was only a little bit of a thing...
But she was a beauty of her kind, a 'lady' as sailors say, her lines perfect,
her colours pure, and every spar and rope and pin lovingly made."*

And so we have the long-awaited S/S 11 collection from mydearthing (a.k.a. my go-to label), entitled 'Voyage'. Though each of Lauren's collections would be aptly named if she stuck with the previous collection's appellation (i.e. 'Missing Piece'), this round's lovely muted blues, greens, and greys perfectly mirror the landscape of a journey by sea, with the handful of prints rather well-suited for a captain's quarters. Throw in a subtle nautical stripe, some pretty rope details, a tunic reminiscent of an unfurled sail, and a couple revamped favorite mydearthing pieces (i.e. my favorite Y Back Tank as a dress, my favorite long-sleeved dress as a short-sleeved dress, and the essential Husband Tank in a variety of gorgeous silks), and you're set for a wonderful voyage indeed. (Baby bump optional.)

Isn't she lovely? By the way, I have to make mention of an amazing fabric Lauren uses in two pieces of the Voyage collection. My favorite piece, that sheer grey loose tee (called the Steel Sighlens T - nice name, ain't it?), and the Steel Spine Tunic (above top and bottom row) are both made from tissue knit jerseys that are actually fine grade steel yarn wrapped in cotton. While both colours are soft like any regular jersey, the steel component in the dark grey fabric in particular allows the fabric to retain crinkles if you like more of that just-got-out-of-bed look (the fabric of the Steel Spine Tunic is less structured). Sounds amazing, doesn't it? This fabric is limited, so, after I order my own Sighlens T, make sure you grab yours.

mydearthing, F/W 10

So, the last couple of days, I've been thinking of doing a kOs F/W 10 Essentials List. Every time I'm preparing my wardrobe for fall/winter, it seems like there are always a few key pieces that I'm missing - that one long sleeved layering piece, that one warm skirt, that one pair of warm pants, that one go-to sweater...And this afternoon seemed like the perfect time to compile the list, seeing as I woke up today to this winter's first snow (I know, I know, it's only October...). However, a brand new mydearthing collection was posted this very afternoon, and thus Lauren seems to have beaten me to the punch. You see, the collection is entitled the 'Missing Piece' collection. Honestly. If I didn't know better, I'd think that Lauren could read my mind. Because this collection contains every single essential I (and probably you) need this fall/winter, all in one convenient location (ie. one low shipping price!).

I absolutely love how every single piece is utterly layerable, not only with the other pieces in the collection, but also with previous mydearthing collections and most non-mydearthing things in my wardrobe. For instance, the bamboo/organic cotton Ten Flip Slip (top left and right). I am lucky to be the very first recipient of this piece, and I'm telling you, it's a definite must for any layering fiend. I've worn this non-stop since my NY trip (both layered and not), and I really should be buying a second one. I love how it looks under the Carly Dress (top, 2nd row left), which Lauren is wearing here with a belt (as she also does with the Carly Top (top, 2nd row right) - genius!). If you're not into having a longer layer, I'd definitely go for the Y Back Tank (also made from bamboo/organic cotton; below in natural), which you see repeatedly throughout the photos of this collection (and rightly so).

I was also lucky to see the wool jersey Panel Skirt  (below, top row) developed, which I think looks absolutely fantastic with its long front panel twisted to the side. I'd definitely love to see this layered underneath the wool jersey/lycra blend Irregular Hem Dress (which I talk about below), and over top of the Wool Circle Seam Pants, which altogether would create some great colour blocking.

Then there are the always lovely knit pieces from Lauren, this time around being the perfect Crop Knit (below left), the gorgeous alpaca Drop Stitch Hooded Wrap (below right; this looks fantastic underneath Lauren's new thrifted Lisbeth Salander jacket, as seen in the Etsy listing), as well as a couple revamped winter accessories (which are yet to be posted on Etsy). Sigh.

My favorite pieces, however, are a complete surprise to me: the tissue-weight wool jersey/lycra blend Sheer Longsleeved Sweater (which is something that I've unknowingly been waiting for from Lauren; below, top left in black, and above right in grey), the boiled merino wool jersey Funnel Hoodie (a.k.a. best pullover ever; below, top right), the wool/cotton/lycra twill Over Tie Trousers (mydeathing pants!; below, 2nd row left in olive, above with the Y Back Tank in black), and the Irregular Hem Dress (seen here in crimson red overtop of the Wool Circle Seam Pants; below, 2nd row right). These pieces are so completely perfect, and again are pushing me towards a more minimalist look...with a bit of a twist.

From the length of this collection review, I think it'll be rather obvious that this is my most favorite mydearthing collection. Lauren has such a beautiful and effortless style, and that shines through more than ever with these new pieces. And I take comfort in knowing that, as always, all mydearthing pieces are lovingly handmade using organic, surplus, vintage, or reclaimed materials. Truly, even though I'll likely be buying more than I should from this collection, Lauren has done me quite the favour by posting this today of all days. Winter, I'm ready.

In This Corner...Transit Transit

Photo: Carla (drummer of Autolux) shattered her elbow after falling off the stage opening for Elvis Costello, and I JUST found a really awesome picture of the 8 titanium screws she has in it.

All I want for Christmas is for Autolux to release a follow-up to the 2004 Future Perfect. Also, does anyone know how to get in touch with Carla Azar? I want to make her dresses! God, I love this band.

This Corner is brought to you by Lauren Jones of mydearthing. And yes, you read right, this is Lauren's Christmas wish. Truth is, this Corner got stuffed in...umm...the corner, and it wasn't allowed to come out until now. So Happy Christmas in July Lauren! ...or August - Autolux's new album Transit Transit is out this Tuesday, but you can hear it here. Just a hint, it sounds even better whilst wearing this

mydearthing, S/S 10

Ah, what a perfect day for mydearthing's S/S 10 'Glass' collection to be unveiled. Lauren kindly went to Montauk to model her newest wares this weekend, and these lovely photos (by Tim A. Jones) and the subsequent Etsy listings are the result. I'm sure you'll agree with me that Lauren rather outdid herself this time around, so go ahead and let her know you appreciate it! I recommend the following exercise to prepare for choosing the perfect piece(s) for you:

First, inhale and look to the left (no, your other left)...

...then exhale and look to the right...

...and now relax.

These delightful pieces are being posted in the mydearthing Etsy shop as we speak, as you can see from my favorites in the sidebar below. I am rather excited about the new colours (or at least new pictures) of the Carly Dress, which has become my go to piece of clothing to throw on for any occasion. And now there's also the Carly Top (below right)! And spring/summer versions of the Way Shrug (below right, worn as scarf with the Carly Top) and the Fold-Up Trench (below left)! And printed Double V tops! Oh yeah, and a whole load of things that I need to get through the summer. Good thing I just got a pay increase, as I have it on good authority that these pieces are certified kick-ass.

Need more mydearthing? Here's Lauren's description of this essential sunny weather collection:

The s/s 2010 Glass Collection is intended to clothe the inner romantic. These are pieces designed to be worn while waiting and longing for your heart's desires - the yearning for which increases the pleasure of acquiring. Each piece is graceful and tender yet memorable. I created soft, versatile silhouettes with delicate detailing such as braids, gathers, curls and knots. Keeping with mydearthing, all garments and accessories are made using organic, surplus, vintage or reclaimed materials.

mydearthing, S/S 10 Preview

In a perfect world, all of you lovely readers already know about Lauren Jones and her exceptional label called mydearthing. And, not only would you know about her, but you would all also own (at least) one of her luxuriously soft and versatile pieces, AND would be a fan of mydearthing on Facebook. If all these things were true, I wouldn't have to write this post, as you all would've already seen these fabulous preview photos of her upcoming S/S 10 'Glass Collection'. And I wouldn't have to reiterate how wonderful these pieces, clothing and accessories alike, are going to feel and look on. But, alas, the world is not without fault, and so I feel it is my duty to share these with you. I just love the romantic and whimsical feel of these amazing photographs, by Matthew Dols. You and I both will be able to see (and purchase) the entire new collection around mid-April. The warm weather can't come soon enough.
