seelenkleid

This, my friends, is what may very well be called a historic post for this blog. For the pieces you shall see contained within this post have not even the tiniest hint of black. Sure, I've posted some colourful pieces and whatnot in the past. But never has such a gathering of white - yes, white - appeared at this little corner of the Internet. And yet, I don't believe I need to explain myself or make excuses for those of you that are on the noir side of fashion. Just look at these pieces, and you'll understand.

These are from the S/S 10 collection of German Ella Haberlach's label,
seelenkleid. The concept behind this collection, entitled 'blue code', is the following:

Masculine and feminine counterparts intertwine to form an

unspoken dialogue.

Shades of porcelain reflect the lovers merged existence, their shards,

indicative of the fragility of togetherness.

Now, if that wasn't a case for white to appear with a vengeance on this blog, I'm not sure what is.

Thanks to Fashion156 for introducing me to this wondrous label (again, for the second time, as Jennine of The Coveted posted about this collection and interviewed Ella back in July)! I indeed could see myself wearing a great number of these pieces, especially those delicate leggings, open-sided top, and the front cape piece. Sigh.

P.S. If you must see some black, check out Ella's earlier collections here. And, you can buy yourself a black or white seelenkleid piece from NJAL's The Shop.

Designer Dream Closet and Maria Severyna

I was introduced to the lovely and ever so helpful Katherine of eBay store Designer Dream Closet just over a year ago, when I found my dream coat and proceeded to drop hint after unsubtle hint to my man about what I wanted for Christmas. Katherine manages to get some of the most unique high fashion pieces, and sells them for a fraction of the retail price. One of the labels she carries is that of NY-based Maria Severyna. Since I don't really pay attention to any high end labels besides Vivienne Westwood, and sometimes Stella McCartney, I just assumed that Maria Severyna was a well-known designer/label. Then Jennine of The Coveted wrote a post a while back about this "mysterious designer" whom she couldn't find out anything about, and could only find pieces for sale on eBay. I thought that was a bit odd, but I forgot about it altogether. But then Jennine wrote another post yesterday about a Maria Severyna piece that Katherine kindly sent to her (first piece above), explaining that Maria is quite a reclusive designer, and sells her pieces only to a few boutiques and in Katherine's online shop. I'm intrigued!

I just got Katherine's eBay newsletter, so I thought I'd share some of Maria's pieces with you that are available right now. Perhaps you'll find something to nag your man about for his Christmas shopping? I know I'd love everything here, and I think my new goal is to obtain a piece from Maria. Check out Katherine's shop for more of Maria's dresses and tops, as I kind of focused on coats and sweaters here (it's cold out!).

Have I mentioned I love green?

Edit: I just realized I left out my favorite piece! So here it is. Mmm...drapey grey...

Canadian Thieves

Positively wonderful find via The Coveted today. Thieves is a Canadian label by designer Sonja den Elzen, who uses eco-friendly fabrics to create a collection "with a mix of fine tailoring, easy draping, asymmetry and the texturing of fabric." Um, yes, please! You can pick up a Thieves piece or two in the online Thieves Boutique, which also carries other designers keen on sustainable design. I for one am in love with the incredible Thieves hemp/tencel Siberian Vest (top; also available in Plum or Java), and the Thieves tencel/wool Hooded Tiaga Dress (middle; also available in black, moss, or dark grey). This dress would probably be my first pick as it would be the most versatile, with the pointed shoulder detailing, unique v-empire waist, cowl skirt (reminiscent of my Liza Rietz scooped cowl knit gown), 3/4 sleeves, and high neck/hood. Sigh. And tencel/wool is by far my newest favorite fabric find, as it's like jersey in its drape and softness, but is warm because of the wool content (and it doesn't pill!). The Thieves hooded Horn Vest (bottom; made of organic wool suiting) is also quite an eye-catching piece with the stuffed details and pointed cap sleeves. I would love to layer this over a top or two. Sigh.

In other news, I had the greatest time throwing together a 'mish-mash' outfit (as my man calls my style), consisting of my new ArtLab Military Skirt No. 1, The Hoody, Norwegian Wood leggings, extra-high black monochrome Chucks, Johnny Cash t-shirt, and brown Pretty Raccoon owl print scarf. Next up: I must try the skirt with my hier apparel plum Vock. I'll try to take dress form pictures of both these mish-mashes on Saturday.

SS10 Wants

New wants via The Coveted (sorry they aren't handmade - I haven't yet found good handmade jeans and shoes on my frequent searches):

I've had an on again/off again love affair with wearing my jeans cuffed/rolled up for years. This photo from G-Star Raw's SS10 show at NYFW has definitely flicked the 'on again' switch. Can't explain why I would love drop crotch jeans with Chinese frog clasps, but I do.

And lately I've been lamenting the fact that I'm so tall and the same-ish height as my man, as I'm beginning to love shoes aside from Chucks and flip flops. And we all know that the best shoes are heels. But these SS10 Temperley flats are absolutely fabulous. Brings new meaning to steel-toed shoes. Of course I hope these would come in a vegan option.
