I'm covered in bees.

Sometimes being dark and mysterious has its downsides. You get lonely, can't always deal with stress well, can't often see from under your fringe...

It's times like those that make you think, 'Perhaps I should be a beekeeper. Yeah, I'd like to keep bees. And be Tilda Swinton.'

This indeed was my line of thinking, after seeing an acupuncturist who was a beekeeper for ten years (among other things, such as a doctoral-level researcher). And yes, the two collections pictured here are from the same designer, being Berlin-based Esther Perbandt (whom I actually wrote about previously here). The former is her F/W 10/11 'Rendez-vous avec la lune' collection, and the latter is her S/S 11 'Hanna' collection. Beautiful.

Now I simply have to figure out a way to keep this newfangled relaxed feeling going through my 7pm -3am shift... Oh, I know:

Layo Gbadamosi

My goodness I love this piece. Such a brilliant combination of Vivienne Westwood mixed with the goddess Athena. This is by a Nigerian-born fashion design student at Parsons by the name of Layo Gbadamosi, and is a part of this year's AAS Line Debut. I just can't stop staring at it. And it doesn't hurt that it has a gorgeous red lining, just like Mr. Izzard's jacket on Monday... I almost feel bad that I'm not totally pumped to see the iconic Henry Rollins tomorrow night just because I'm still hooked on Eddie. Indeed, I just finished watching a moderately bad rental just because he had a role in it (as a super villain at that!). Followed by reading reviews of Monday's show, which was a good refresher on the bits I had already forgotten. I curse my bad memory, but three hours of hilarious material is a lot to completely absorb when you're laughing so hard your entire face hurts. Really, the only downside of the night was that it had to end. And we didn't stick around to try and meet him. Anyway, let's just hope that the second rental (yes, with Eddie in it as well, this time as Charlie Chaplin) is a bit better. And that it has some more jazz chickens...

Badgers can't be choosers

I'm having issues finding something I want to post. I'm currently going through Eddie Izzard withdrawal, and seem to just be typing in 'eddie izzard' over and over into my Google search box. (Indeed, I just closed about fifteen Mr. Izzard related windows since my usually fast MacBook was beginning to run unusually slow.) Have you ever looked forward to something so much for so long that you just don't know what to do with yourself once that thing has come and gone? Yeah. Eddie Izzard is my hero. And a super hero at that. Monday night was indescribably amazing (so happy he showed up in both his dashing tuxedo jacket and in 'girl mode') and I curse my bad memory for being unable to replay it in my mind on a constant loop (such as the superb bit about Latin that had me crying). I also curse the fact that he'll be in a Broadway show ("Race") that only runs till August 21st, 20 days before my arrival. Sigh. At any rate, here's a pretty dress by David Longshaw. I miss the days of colouring books, and would happily wear something I can doodle on. But, as they say, badgers can't be choosers.

Le singe est sur la branche.

I must say, I hardly recognize myself these days. As a result of hot summery weather and my lovely friend Lauren, I've been converted to the short dress side. I've always worn dresses as tops, and can't remember wearing a short dress as a dress in the last eight or nine years. But the past couple days, I just couldn't get enough of my mydearthing Carly Dress, which provided my pasty legs with some much needed sun exposure. Today though, I decided to give Carly a break, and slapped together a new outfit, being my mydearthing Husband Dress in ink (swoon!) underneath my Sybil Dress by Attila Design. Fantastico! I've always worn the Sybil Dress with the sides cinched up as in the picture, and was quite delighted to see that the drapey hem was perfectly parallel to the shirt tail hem of the Husband Dress. Perhaps Lauren and Tiina are in cahoots? Or something. And then, on my way out the door, I noticed that I had a package waiting for me in the front foyer, from none other than my dear friend Patricia. It was my long awaited waist wrap! I had been oogling the white one for ages, but didn't order one for moi simply because of the colour. And so, when Patricia listed a black one, I knew it was meant to be. I quickly threw it on over top my 2-short dress combo, and the effect was simply stunning. With some black jeans/black leggings/black boots, this second outfit is a definite keeper.

And now, I must go squeal with delight as I will be seeing Eddie Izzard live in person in 4.49 hours. Eek!

Cake or Death

I absolutely love Zathew Zheng's 'Complex Simplicity' collection. Although of course I would, as it's inspired by ancient Greek costume. And fluid draping juxtaposed with rigid braids - spectacular. I'd even wear those colours and stripes. Yes, including the jumpsuit.

Speaking of juxtaposition, I love Eddie Izzard. And if you do too, make sure you watch Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story. It was definitely the best way I could've spent my evening.
